This ain't the summer of love

A lot of talk on sites/blogs/mags/amongst my industry friends about this being the 40th anniversary of Sgt. Pepper and subsequently the surge of the hippie movement. I won't comment on the aforementioned Beatles album as it is not one of my favorites, nor do I think it merits the accolades that have been heaped upon it. As the world knows, Revolver is the beginning and end for me. Simply put, it's the best (and first) "rock" album ever made. More on that some other time.

I was thinking about other more important records released in '67. Ponder these:

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn - The Pink Floyd
The Who Sell Out - The Who
Something Else By The Kinks - The Kinks
Evolution and Butterfly - The Hollies
Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. - The Monkees
Everything Playing - The Lovin' Spoonful
The Doors - The Doors

And so on. An endless list, really. '67 was a very good year for many, many bands, so I thought it only fair to point out the gems.

Keep in mind, if Brian Wilson had finished Smile with The Beach Boys, we'd never be talking about Sgt. Pepper.

I will rifle through my collection later and see what other meisterwerks I come up with.
